Snøsnute huskies is a small long distance mushing team founded by us, the mushers Alexander Johansson and Tuuli-Maria Ristilä in 2018.
Our journey together started in the northeastern part of Norway, where we met and worked as guides/handlers in a tourism kennel, which ignited the sparkle and love for this amazing sport.
We both knew we wanted to have our own dogs one day, and soon enough our first dog Wotan, an Alaskan husky male, moved permanently in with us. When we adopted him, he was a one year old and didn’t have much experience of being a sled dog yet. Through trial and error during his first full training season, he became the leader for our small team of four puppies (including him), and is now our main leader and a great teacher for young dogs.
Today, together with our family of 32 Alaskan huskies and a golden retriever mix Loki, we live in our beautiful homestead in Northern Sweden, in a small village by a big lake. A true paradise, one can say!
We want to share our life with sled dogs, in hopes of inspiring and educating others interested in this beautiful sport. Working with animals requires a keen eye for detail, knowledge about dog behaviour and training, as well as high standard of animal welfare.
Happy Trails!
